Cinnamon cultivation

Sri Lanka is renowned for its high-quality cinnamon, especially Ceylon cinnamon, which often has GI protection to certify its authenticity and origin. Kandy is one of the prominent regions in Sri Lanka known for spice cultivation, including cinnamon.

Traditionally cinnamon occurs wild in the central hills (including Kandy), Matale, Belihull Oya, etc.

But commercial cultivation has been mostly along the coastal belt (wet low country) because those areas often meet optimal climate & soil conditions.
